And he took over play calling and the offense did look different under dan campbell and __ man I was impressed I thought I thought he did a good job in that role so year two now as the kind of offensive overseer here what is this all gonna look like and you know we’re gonna get more clarity on that in time because they also have ben johnson but as far as dan campbell’s kind of coaching background and what his scheme looks like he’s gonna adapt his scheme just as sean payton always did in new orleans where campbell did the majority of his offensive learning but he also has more kind of modern pro spread backgrounds uh as you go back to his time in miami where he coached under joe philippine who was a mike mccarthy and aaron rodgers guy descending from that mike holmgren kind of modern pro spread coaching tree so between sean payton and uh under joe philliban he really has that sort of spread background if you will but as we saw last year he’s not afraid to come out and 13 personnel and run a you know power eye offense he’s going to adapt his offense to what he feels his personnel can do best and now with some better receiving options coming in this year we might see them open it up a little bit more to look a little bit more like those drew brees aaron rodgers led offenses at least schematically speaking and all of that kind of permeates down to ben johnson who gets promoted here has been in house with detroit going back to the matt patricia days under daryl bevel who ironically is also in that sort of home green tree who all the way back kind of learned at the very beginning of daryl bevel’s career in green bay uh under mccarthy and holmgren so ironically similar backgrounds there uh but ben johnson also a pretty good resume he learned under mike martz who you know adam gase learned under I put peyton manning in there because that was kind of peyton manning’s offense in denver but ben johnson was in miami uh both with dan campbell and then actually stayed there when adam gase was promoted or hired as the head coach so another guy with a lot of that sort of you know modern pro spread mike martz mike holmgren and all of their disciples were kind of the some of the early innovators of the modern passing game if you will so you know you’ve got some good experience here and some good modern thinkers and it’s a staff that definitely still has a lot to prove but two guys that I think are very qualified to put together a well run offense here so I actually ranked dan campbell as a head coach 15th and that is mostly about his leadership ability and uh kind of the rah rah uh fight fight mentality that really did show for this lions team uh despite only winning three games this was a super scrappy resilient team that all the way through the end of the season was not giving up uh despite them not being a very good football team and that’s uh that’s an endorsement of dan campbell’s leadership abilities but then on the defensive side of the ball you’ve got aaron glenn who you know I know the results have not been there quite yet he’s a young guy was dealing with a detroit defense and his first year as defensive coordinator they just straight up didn’t have the bodies too many injuries was not a great roster to begin with and there’s only so much you can do unless you’re like bill belichick with a a measly roster to have a really good defense so year two is definitely gonna be important for him but just you ask around the league people respect the hell out of aaron glenn went right into being a defensive backs coach after being a player for mike pettin uh in cleveland when those defenses at least the first year under mike penton was really good. Foreign. But this is their look and they’re sticking with it it really only bothers me when a team had them got rid of them and then tries to bring them back here they’ve been consistentso it’s fine that they keep them there sock situation also leaves a lot to be desired if you have stripes on your shoulders and that’s a huge part of your aesthetic then why do you just have plain socks great uniforms don’t skip on stuff like this. I hate the 1950s throwbackI do I think it looks awful.
